| Support
for Turkish, Armenian, Azerbaijani Joint Projects within the
TRACECA Program
Since 1998, TABDC has been promoting the development
of a Turkish-Armenian cooperative strategy for transportation.
Ongoing talks between TABDC and State railway authorities
of both countries have sought to promote the inclusion of
Turkish and Armenian railway systems in the TRACECA corridor
as one of the most cost-effective, commercially viable and
strategically beneficial East-West rail links. Armenia and
Turkey constitute a land bridge between Europe and Asia, and
the existing network of Armenian rail lines are an essential
link to a viable transportation network between the Caucasus,
Turkey and onwards to Europe. The opening of the Anatolia-Caucasus
route will guarantee permanent access to Trans-European and
Trans-Asian transportation networks for the people and businesses
of two continents.
TABDC welcomes the approval on December 11-12,
2001 by the Intergovernmental Commission “TRACECA”
for the Transport Corridor Europe/Caucasus/Asia assembled
in Tbilisi, Georgia, the new TRACECA map which now includes
the highways, railroads and ports of Turkey in the highlighted
routes of its East-West transport corridor. As a Turkish-Armenian
business association gathering professionals from the transportation
sector, TABDC is committed to support the full implementation
of the Multilateral Agreement on International Transport for
the Development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia Corridor signed
in Baku in 1998.
Establishing a Free Trade Zone
TABDC has contacts in the Samsun and the Mersin
Free Trade Zones who are working to create free trade zones
for Turkey and Armenia. For the next step, the solution of
political matters is required.
Banking Sphere
Talks are underway between Turkish Banks and
the Armenian Banks. Despite willingness from bankers of both
countries, this matter is waiting for on-going political progress
in the region.
Turkish Airlines
TABDC has been working on opening a Turkish
Airlines office in Yerevan and promoting immediate start for
regular flights between Armenia and Turkey and to further
connect this route to the third countries where can give service
to Diaspora Armenians.
