Activities for Tourism
Turks and Armenians have a long history in
Anatolia, and there are many masterpieces of art in Turkey,
created by Armenian and Turkish architects. Therefore, we
believe that besides commercial activities, the tourism concept
should also be supported. Tourism is a way of contributing
to the development of both Anatolia and Armenia, and of building
cooperative and congenial relationship between the two populations
by bridging the gap between people who had been living for
centuries together.
We have contacts with travel agencies in the
USA, Armenia and Turkey in order to organize package programs
to Central, Southeast and Eastern Anatolia and Armenia not
only for Diaspora Armenians but also for non-Armenian tourists.
The first tour has already being organized by
the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America and TABDC in
June 2001 and completed with a great success.
Restoration of Akhtamar Church
In accordance with our protocols signed between
Armenian and Turkish sides of our councils in 1998, TABDC
is immensely involved in the organization of restoration of
Akhtamar Church. The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce have undertaken
the financial part of this project. Istanbul Chamber of Commerce
supplies all the necessary professional consultation for restoration
project of Akhtamar Armenian Church on the Lake Van and presently
working on the formalities. According to prior protocols,
professional consultancy will be provided from the Union of
Architects of Armenia. This project is very important for
our council, since we strongly believe in the protection of
historical sites and thus the values of our nations.
An Active Public Diplomacy for the Turkish
Armenian Reconciliation
Press / Public Information
We supply news concerning the economic, academic
and cultural developments to the Turkish and Armenian press
regularly.
We are carrying on awareness raising activities
for the need of cross-border cooperation between Turkey and
Armenia by highlighting the economic, political and cultural
gains expected from the opening of the common border.
Cultural Activities
With the sponsorship of the council members,
we produced an album named “TURAR” Turkish-Armenia.
When setting out to record this album, our inspiration was
the sounds of Anatolia, which blend the best of Turkey and
Armenia. This album brought together Armenian and Turkish
musicians allowing the formation of powerful melodies and
soothing arrangements.
TABDC hopes that by promoting cultural activities
we can further cement closer ties between two nations.
