| Cooperation
between Academics and Journalists:
Direct contacts between the Yerevan State University
(YSU) and Middle East Technical University (METU) has been
set up by TABDC and for academic cooperation “the first
Memorandum of Agreement” has been signed between Turkish
and Armenian Universities in 1999. The first student exchange
has been started according to this protocol. TABDC serves
as an intermediary in organizing an academic trip to Yerevan
at the end of May 2002. Academics from the International Relations
Department of Middle East Technical University and the Dean
of the University will hold talks with their counterparts
from the Yerevan State University to expand cooperation and
to intensify student exchange programs.
· Ankara University and Yerevan
State University has also signed an agreement of cooperation
in 2000 and many direct correspondences are still going on
between the Universities,
· We would like to extend cooperation
between academics and institutions and presently working on
to start several direct contacts.
· Yerevan Press Club, New Generation
Journalists Union and Diplomatic Correspondents Union Association
in Ankara met in Yerevan in September 2001. The next meeting
will be held on March 7-10 in Cappadocia, Turkey.
· TABDC and American University
Center for Global Peace formed “Turkish-Armenian Young
Women’s Group(TAYWG)” that visited Yerevan on
March 8-12, 2002 to celebrate the World Women’s Day
in the Armenian capital and met with politicians and NGO leaders.
TABDC has supported the activities of Turkish
- Armenian Reconciliation Commission. TABDC believes in the
need to take action to fill in the gap to promote direct dialogue
and to cooperate to address the issues between Armenia and
Turkey. TABDC urges for the necessity for interstate relations
and communication at a governmental level. Dialogue and interaction
between public organizations and business associations of
both countries are a pre-requisite for establishing mutual
understanding, handling most sensitive issues and achieving
sustainable economic prosperity in our region.
Advancing the concerns of Armenian and
Turkish populations on a broad range of issues
We believe that there is no insurmountable contradiction
in the interests of Turkey and Armenia. The destiny of the
independent Nation of Armenia is very closely dependent on
the destiny of Turkey. It is impossible to think about sustainable
development separately in Armenia and in Turkey. Viewed in
the context of their regional capacities, both countries offer
promising opportunities for the business communities of the
world. Only a Turkish-Armenian cooperative strategy will enable
to overcome weaknesses hindering the region’s competitiveness.
TABDC is committed to influence and guide international
policies on matters of interest to Turkish and Armenian populations.
TABDC has launched awareness raising actions to highlight
potential areas for cooperation in the fields of transport,
trade facilitation, telecommunications and information technologies.
TABDC is dedicated to develop strong links
with the European institutions, the US Congress and the French
Senate.
